Recently, the Knights of the Gaming Table started an Age of Sigmar league. I can hear your groans. Many in the club, like many of you out there were against the edition/system change. It was reviled and avoided. I had always wanted to give it a try, and since I was against playing my Tomb Kings in 8th, it wasn't as much a thing for me. However, finding an opponent to try it out seemed impossible, especially since there are so many other games going in the hole, especially X-Wing and 40K.
The GW rep wasn't willing to let us give up, however. He pushed the store to push the game. The store manager brought it up to me repeatedly. So, I set about making an easy league to get people to just play. It isn't super competitive, you just get stuff for playing.
The result, 8 player, plus myself, playing on the day of the league start. One player did walk away, but the seven others bought in. In the past two weeks, and even leading up to the league, a majority of games have been AoS. All in all, everyone seems to be enjoying the game.
I know there are plenty of haters out there, but just give it a try with an open mind. Play it like a brand new game you just happen to have WAY to many models for. We are using Scroll Builder for points. We are currently using the Pool system, but the SCGT system also has promise. Drop the sudden death rules, they crush the fun. Grab some scenarios from the books or we are using the SCGT ones.
Hey, if you want, come join us. I know I will be playing it this Saturday.
