And the Inquisitor Lays Down the Hammer

Well, I was late to the show on Saturday, but I still managed to get in a game of Malifaux and some after hours Deathwatch and Dark Heresy. Other systems making appearances included Warhammer Fantasy, Bolt Action, and Warhammer 40K. Basically, the scene is hopping. So, where were you?

See you down there next weekend!

Malifaux League comes to a close.

Another league comes to close. And even with a random draw, Troy still some how manages to come out on top. Seriously, I almost redrew. Second went to Shaffer.
Final Achievement points:
Patrick - 33
Troy - 29
Nabors - 16
Shaffer - 13

Next up on the league list? Maybe Infinity. Likely end of February or early March.

Hope to see many of you there!

Malifaux League Running Strong

The Malifaux League is almost half way done, though it has been extended until November 30th, due to scheduling conflicts with the Pathfinder Society on the 23rd. Patrick looks to be the leader on achievement point, though everyone is fairly close. As it is a drawing, just entering gets you a ticket. We currently have five players, but I will take more through next week.

Other gaming hasn't been shut down for the league by any means. Last week also saw players throwing down 40K and some after hours Deathwatch/Dark Heresy.

Things are hoping, be sure to drop on by!

Another looney Iron Man Painting Challenge comes to a close!

We did it!

Well, some of us did it.  The rest are too smart. After a grueling 27+ hours, our semi-annual painting marathon has ended. Tears were shed, dudes were painted, caffeine was consumed.  In the end, only Michael, Allan, and Nate made it all the way through. Which means that the old dudes outlasted the kids.  Shame, shame, shame.  Photos from the event and color commentary after the jump!

Tacticon Prep RTT: Round 1

Over the weekend, the Knights hosted a 3 round 40K tourney, using scenarios we are tinkering with for Tacticon. I was TO and felt it went rather well. We had a great group of guys come up from Colorado Springs. We had 9 players, though, if some people could work an alarm, we may have had 11 or 12. We are running another one on the 17th, and hope to have an even better turn out. If we can get 10 players, I would like to add a best painted or players choice into the mix. Sorry, no sports, its to hard to judge when you play your opponent every week. "Would you play this guy again?" "Do I have a choice"... On to the results.

Placings:
1st Matt(Tyranids): 59 points
2nd Jason(Daemons): 42 points
3rd Shaffer(Tau): 42 points(with a by)

Read on for pictures of the rounds.

Project 2d8 on communityfunded.com

Hello!  DB here.

I usually don't soapbox here, but our friends over at Project 2d8 have a cool project up that we think a lot of the gaming community will be interested in.  It is an open source web-based platform that provides in person and in-chat RPG mapping and utilities!  Kind of like what Dungeon Tools completely failed to do.

Have a look at the facebook page, like em up, and then if you are keen on it, head on over to communityfunded.com and "endorse" the project (it's like a like on facebook).

They are participating in a promotional thing that Community Funded is putting on where if they are in the top four projects as far as endorsements are concerned they get a boost to their funding, so right now, endorsements are pretty huge.

I've included the links to their stuff, and I know these guys would love to here some suggestions. If you have any questions, I can do my best to answer them, or you can just ask them.

Tacticon 2013 RTT codex cut-off clarification!!

Hello all.  Just a quick clarification.  In the pamphlet for the RTT at Tacticon, the cut-off date for codexes is May 31st.

THIS IS INCORRECT.  CORRECT CODEX CUT-OFF is July 31st.

The new Eldar codex will be legal, as will the Iyanden and Farsight supplements.

*Thumbsup*!

Sorry for the confusion!

Confessions of a Brushlicker: Because they said I couldn't...

Hello all!

Dark Brotherhood here.  I have been eating paint for a loooong time, and in that time, I have painted armies poorly, well, slowly, medium fast...you name it.  But lately, I have been painting EXTRA slow, working on techniques, instruction of others, single figure and small group stuff.  I recently took 1st in Unit at Ghengis Con Denver with my Space Hulk dudes, which I have been painting SINCE THE DAMNED GAME CAME OUT!

(2009)

Ugh.

That's 9 dudes in 4 years, if you are keeping track.

But the one thing I haven't really tried to do is speed paint an entire army.

And because they said I couldn't do it, and because Tacticon is coming up, and because my Farsight Spam list is undefeated currently, I have decided to paint my Tau army in 70 days. Here is one of the color schemes:

I painted these dudes and their 8 buddies in a week. They are
1.primed with Tamiya Fine Surface grey,
2.washed in ice blue and wolf grey made into a wash
3.Overhead sprayed with GW white primer
4. Airbrushed with Parma Faschange red

Those steps take about an hour total

5. Edge highlighted in white
6. black detail added.

At this pace, I think I can whip out the rest of the dudes (drones and Pathfinders) next week.
The visual theme of the army is "Imperial Koi fish"  like the white, orange, and black Japanese karp.
Some units and/or suits will be black, white or orange, and vehicles will be digicamoed in a splotchy, koi-like scheme.

The hard thing for me is learning to let go of anal-retentiveness and trust that I know enough about techniques and tricks to make a great looking army without taking an eternity.
Wish me luck, I'm going in.
-Dark Brotherhood

The club was rocking!

IMAG0791

The club was rocking this last Saturday. There was barely room to walk between all the tables throwing dice. Infinity, Warmachine and Hordes, and Warhammer 40k all rocking across a half dozen tables. It was an awesome sight, I had to stop setting up my own game of 40k(foreground) just to take the above picture.

Mid table thoughts on the new Tau Codex

I know its all over the web, but I thought I would throw my two cents into the ring. Firt, let me run down my "qualifications". I have been playing 40k since 2002. My first army was Tau, and it was my only army until 2010. I put my Tau on the back burner for a Chaos Space Marine army, as my main opponents were Space Marines, and specifically the new Space Wolves in the height of their power. When sixth rolled in, I tried all my armies. Chaos quickly died as my Tzeentch/Slaanesh build didn't really work for me in this edition. I toyed with Tau a little, but they kinda got shelved in favour of my Eldar, now with Dark Eldar. The last tournament I played in, I took Tau. As I have ran the con tournaments since sixth came out, I have not ran them in that environment, though I am thinking of running them at the end of May in a small RTT.
Enough about me. I want to run through each force slot and break down what I see, without having played any games, mind you. I am going to ignore the special characters, as I haven't had time to really read them, and just want to get the base of the army right now. I will say though, I am super happy to see Aun'shi back in the dex.

Two Week Single Miniature Painting Challenge!!!

IMAG0722 Two weeks ago, five of us, Shaffer, Patrick, Dave, Nate, and myself all threw in some money for a box of old Space Marine wanna be miniatures. There were four basic marines and a sergeant in the box. There were also several special weapons. Shaffer took the sergeant and the rest of us divided up the special weapons. In the end, nobody used the special weapons, and I believe I alone even bothered to paint them. After two weeks we brought in the models and had them judged by a non-gamer and a gamer on whose was the best painted. I won unanimously with my lightning marine, with Shaffer coming in second with his sergeant with some OSL from a power weapon. The above picture doesn't really do them justice, but they are on display in the case at Hobby Town Fort Collins, back by the darts. You all should come on down a take a look, and why not come on a Saturday and stay for some games in the basement.

Hope to see you there.

Confessions of a Brushlicker: Casting Malifaux Cult of December Ice Gamins in Acrylic PART ONE

Hello everyone!

Dark Brotherhood, your favorite paint chip taste tester here again, this time to show you how to cast ice creatures in clear acrylic to get a special effect like so:

Pretty cool, huh?  Yeah I was pleased.  Before we get started, I should make a big block of ALLCAPS text in red.
THIS ARTICLE, AND THE STUFF MADE IN IT, OR THE STUFF THAT THIS ARTICLE INSPIRES PEOPLE TO MAKE, SHOULD NOT AND IS NOT INTENDED TO INFRINGE ON THE COPYRIGHTS OR IP OF WRYD GAMES OR ANY OTHER MODEL MAKER, ESPECIALLY GAMES WORKSHOP.  THIS ARTICLE INTENDS TO SHOW HOW YOU CAN PROXY YOUR OWN MODELS IN CLEAR ACRYLIC TO MAKE THEM LOOK COOL, BUT YOU SHOULD ALWAYS HAVE YOUR ORIGINAL MODELS ON HAND TO SHOW A TOURNAMENT ORGANIZER.
With that out of the way, here's what you'll need:

Genghiscon throw down thrown down!

IMAG0672 This last weekend was Genghiscon and the KoGT was privileged enough to run both the 40K and Malifaux events. The Malifaux run down can be found here. As for the 40K event, it went smashing. Stay tuned to find out more.

Road to Genghiscon: Finish in sight.

Less than two days until the con. A mere 62 hours until the 40K tournament begins. Are you excited? I know I am. Packets are done. Prizes are sorted. Just need to finish up the award plaques and a couple surprises for the Malifaux event, then its off to Auroa

Road to Genghicon: Da Table

Here it is ladies and gentlemen, the final table. Layout will change, but you get the idea.

Road to Genghis Con: Terrain Finale

It's all done. That's right, all the terrain is finished for the 3rd set of tables, with 8 full days to go. And today isn't even half over. Each table will have 1 large pyramid, 4 smaller ones, 4 of the ruins pictured above, and 4-5 difficult terrain pieces pictured yesterday. Plenty of line of sight blocking, some cover, and some pieces to slow the advance. Can't wait to see them being played. I hope to set up a table Saturday and snap a shot or two to post. On to the paper work.

Road to the Con: Terrain Round 2

A quick update: I have finished all the difficult terrain, as seen above in its rocky sandy "glory". I have also all of the medium pryamids painted, as well as the ruin terrain. Tomorrow I plan to lay down the sand for the ruin bases, which will bring the necron tables to a close. After a final update tomorrow and hopefully an action shot terrain will be done. Then it is on to the plaques and the player pack. Barely over a week to go, and I'm feeling pretty good about it. Something is going to go terribly wrong...

Tuesday, February 5, 2013

Road to the Con: Terrain Edition

I was asked to post some shots of the new terrain for GenghisCon. There will be four necron themed boards, similar to the previous nid and imperial boards from Tacticon(which will be returning). That little piddly thing in front is a Space Marine in awe of the Necrons' might.

And these 16 pyramids make up the mid level LoS blockers. There will also be some ruined necron obelisks and some severe rocky ground.

Well, there cracks the whip, back to the grind stone, I hope to have another update tomorrow.

Iron Man Painting Challenge RETURNS!

Well, its that time of year again!

Break out your brushes and paint pots, caffeinate yourself to an inadvisable degree, and get ready to throw down in the most grueling painting event EVAR!

IRON MAN PAINTING CHALLENGE is our twice-yearly, pre-convention painting pow-wow. That's a lot of hyphens.

Join us Saturday, February 9th at 11:00 am, and paint all day, and all night, and far into the next day IF YOU ARE IRON MAN ENOUGH!

This a great opportunity to just sit down and grind out all of those minis you've been meaning to get finished, while enjoying good company and eating terrible junk food.

Refreshments will be provided, and wimps will be mocked.

I MIGHT paint some Dark Eldar.  But probably not.
